The details
Having used heavy and bulky vacuum cleaners, I wanted to try out lighter and more portable equipment, and this canister vacuum from Bissell was a pretty great buy. Weighing 10 pounds only, it’s easy to carry from one room to another.
Design
The design is pretty basic compared to modern canister vacuums. It has a bagless design with two large wheels at the rear, a handle extending to the top part of the vacuum, a dustbin, and a suction hose in front.
Bissell adds a 9-amp motor which is quite powerful for its size and price point. I found the 15-inch retractable cord a little short but quite reasonable for small apartments because I could pull out as much cord as needed.
Features
Its lightweight construction makes it portable, while the handy attachments make it easy to clean and maintain.
The multi-surface cleaning head makes it easy to switch between cleaning hardwood floors or carpets while the removable filter comes equipped with an empty lid for quick and dirt-free emptying.
The retractable cord that eases storage is another component you’re sure to love. It eliminates the need to wrap the cord when storing the equipment and the retractable feature means it can rewind automatically for more convenient cleaning.
And with the dusting brush/crevice tool combo you can clean hard-to-reach places easily.
The vacuum cleaner also comes with a dirt compartment that is detachable. Once it reaches maximum capacity, it’s emptied using the release button at the side.
Ease of use
This Bissell model is all about making your vacuum cleaning easy. To begin with, setting it up is a breeze. All I needed to do was attach the extension wands and the multi-surface head and plug the cord into a power source.
I was also amazed at how fast it cleaned surfaces. Bissell equips this model with a 9-amp motor that uses cyclonic technology to allow the vacuum cleaner to suck in even the most stubborn animal fur.
The technology also enables the vacuum cleaner to separate dirt from the debris when entering the dust bin, reducing the number of allergens being pushed back into the air.
A flip of a switch is all I needed to shift from hard floors to carpet mode. Sadly I didn’t find the carpet mode as effective because the floor head doesn’t swivel much, but it still cleans the corners and under the crevices pretty well.
Value
Value for money? Not so much. I find this canister vacuum quite affordable for all the features it offers. However, an all-plastic construction means it might need to be replaced after some time. Also, the disposable filters add to the cost because they wear out fast.
Final verdict
Overall, the BISSELL 2156a Zing Vacuum is a solid buy for buyers looking for a lightweight canister vacuum that can clean hard-to-reach areas and don’t mind an all-plastic construction. However, it doesn’t clean carpets that well, so if your house has an all-carpet floor, it’s best to look for another option.
