The details
Buying an umbrella on a budget doesn’t mean you should compromise on the basics. Magictec knows this too well. It designs an umbrella that’s a little under ten bucks and equips it with all essential features. Here’s more about it.
Construction
While the manufacturer provides some pretty impressive features about its overall construction, we were somewhat skeptical. Magictec claims it can withstand a wind speed of up to 55 mph, but according to our reviews and assessment, the umbrella can’t resist strong gusts of wind.
The top of the umbrella is also joined to the spring-loaded arm using a plastic joint prone to break. What stands out about its construction is the 210T polyester and Teflon fabric used to make the canopy that repels water even in a torrential downpour.
Opening mechanism
The umbrella is equipped with an automatic opening and closing mechanism for a hassle-free one-hand operation. However, it doesn’t fold up quickly as you’d need to operate it using both hands. We also noted it doesn’t close down as the release button sometimes gets stuck.
Portability
The umbrella is 13 inches long and weighs a little less than 11.8 oz; hence easy to store in backpacks, purses, and briefcases.
Value for money
While this Magictec umbrella is an excellent budget buy, you’d have to trade off some handy features like an easy open and close mechanism and quality workmanship.
Final verdict
The manufacturer provides the bare minimum for this budget umbrella. We found that the canopy inverts even when the slightest wind blows and it is too small to keep you dry during heavy rains. However, its compact construction makes it easy to store.
