Pluto TV is a streaming service owned by ViacomCBS, a parent company of famous television production networks. As such, it has content from networks like Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and MTV. In addition, in May 2020, the company expanded its collection to include AMC films like The Walking Dead.
Pluto TV has more than 250 live streaming channels, including CNN, Newsmax TV, CBSN, Court TV, and Bloomberg Television. Brands like CBSN broadcast news for 24 hours while CNN provides recorded content.
For sports fanatics, they can access channels like Fox Sports, Stadium, NFL Channel, to mention a few. Unfortunately, the streaming service doesn’t offer live sporting events. If you want to follow a premier league live sports on ESPN, you have to subscribe to a premium service.
Apart from live streaming channels, Pluto TV has on-demand films like The Big Short, The Terminator, Basic Instinct and more. If you’re big on reality shows, you’ll find Storage Wars, Roseanne, American Pickers, Grounded for Life interesting.
The streaming service is available on mobile, web, and streaming applications, and you don’t have to sign up to access the content. What’s more, you don’t need to provide credit or other information, whether using a web or app-based player.
An internet speed of 3 Mbps is more than enough to watch Pluto TV movies and films. However, if you’re sharing devices, you’d need a speed of up to 7 Mbps for a buffer-free viewing experience.
As mentioned, Pluto TV is a free streaming service. It has a relatively good selection of content, but it could add a few more movies and TV shows. Also, its lack of original shows is a bummer for fans.
Our overall experience on Pluto TV was pretty much similar to other free streaming services. It has a fair selection of channels and good performance too. However, it needs to improve its interface and channel guides. Also, its omission of the DVR capability is a significant drawback. DVR comes in handy when you want to save a recording of a film scheduled at an inconvenient time.
