The details
We found Tubi pretty similar to Netflix, only that it’s a free streaming service. With up to 20,000 TV shows and movies, it has a good variety of on-demand titles. Since it’s free, it’s ad-supported and doesn’t have the top capabilities of other streaming services like offline downloads.
Content
At the time of the review, we found popular films like Catch Me if You Can, The Way Back, Snakes on a Plane, and more. As for the TV show lineup, you’ll enjoy watching titles like 3rd Rock From the Sun, Hell’s Kitchen, and One-Punch Man.
The only drawback is that it lacked original content shows. If you want to watch recent streaming hits such as The Marvelous Mrs orMaisel you must pay for premium streaming services. Also, if you want to watch Live TV, you have to sign up with Xumo or Pluto TV.
User experience
We found Tubi a little more organized than IMDBtv. To start using it, you need to sign up for a free account. It’s not a requirement but setting it up allows you to add your preferred titles, create parental controls, and view the watch history.
Most of the navigation occurs using its menu, which has organized films and shows into four categories (Collections, Popular, Genres, and Channels). There are subcategories too. For example, the Collections category has smaller sections for Cult Classics, Award Winners and Nominees, and Highly Rated films making it easy to find movie titles.
Streaming speed
Tubi caps its streaming resolution to 720 p, which doesn’t need a high internet speed. As such, with an internet connection speed of 1 Mbps, you can stream content. However, a speed of 4 Mbps is recommended for the best video and audio experience.
Value
Tubi is an excellent alternative for households looking to cut back on monthly expenses because you enjoy as much entertainment for free. As with other free services, there are some trade-offs. Tubi displays ads after every 15 minutes, and it doesn’t have a premium account.
Final verdict
Tubi has a pretty solid selection of movies and TV shows. Its user interface makes it easy to navigate and find preferred titles and its ability to support a wide range of devices is a bonus. However, with most of its content not hitting 720p resolution your overall viewing experience may not be exciting.
